Active
traditional farming town which knew times of splendour
with the discovery of lead, silver and iron in Sierra Almagrera
at the end of the 19th Century, which left a significant
mark on the appearance of the old quarter of town as well
as interesting remains of its mining activity.
Within the boundaries of the municipality lie several tiny farming villages as
well as the little fishing village of Villaricos, with its small and charming
yacht club. It is one of the places in Spain with the most cave dwellings, many
of which are still inhabited. A beatuiful 14 kilometre shoreline with sandy beaches
and small coves.
