| Situated
in the foothills of Sierra Alhamilla, Nijar is a beautiful
example of the Arab heritage of Eastern Almería.
Nijar is a farming village surrounded by fertile orchards,
with a very important pottery tradition. Its municipality,
one of the biggest in Spain with almost six hundred square
kilometres, has known two events which have changed its
existence in the last few years: One, intensive agricultural
development, and the other, the creation of the Natural
Park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar, covering more than seventy
per cent of its territory, the rest of which pertainins
to the municipalities of Almería and Carboneras.
