Of ancient origins, coastal Villaricos
gave shelter to Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs,
and in antiquity became a very important commercial port.
Rich archaeological sites. The present fishing village
is administratively part of the municipality of Cuevas
de Almanzora, and began in the mid-nineteenth century as
an embarkation point for the minerals mined from the Sierra
Almagrera. With its enchanting fishing port and yacht club,
Villaricos is one of the most notable and attractive enclaves
on the coastline.
